Uniflex Sideboard

This attractive vintage sideboard was manufactured in the UK in the 1960s by Uniflex. Crafted in walnut and originally used as a dressing table, it sits elegantly on round, tapering legs. Design highlights include the distinctive handles, the built-in (but removable) dividers in the top drawer, the concealed drawer pull, and the neat rebate running around the edge of the top.
Uniflex furniture is not only timeless, it was ahead of its time. More than most British makers of the 1960s, Uniflex was committed to the clean lines and principles of modernist design. Their bedroom and dining furniture was pared back and free from ornament, with some pieces even doing away with handles entirely — a bold and forward-thinking approach for the British market at the time.
While Uniflex sold fewer pieces than some of its contemporaries, their furniture has become increasingly sought after over the years. Rarity, combined with the brand’s innovative use of materials such as teak, rosewood and durable melamine, has enhanced the desirability of these pieces. Another signature detail is the horizontal bar linking the front and back legs.
Condition: This piece has been sanded in a previous life, with some areas sanded more than others. As a result, there are visible variations in the shade of the wood, which can be seen in the photos. This has been reflected in the lower price. All drawers remain fully usable, though one does not slide quite as smoothly as it would have originally.
